June Goodenow Harry passed away peacefully at her home in Asbury Methodist Village on December 31, 2024, at the age of 92, with family nearby. Born on September 15, 1932, in Erie, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Rose and Earle Goodenow and loving wife of the late Milton C. Harry.
She is survived by her two sons, Christopher Harry (spouse Christine) and Seth Harry (spouse Ruth), her daughter-in-law Rosemary Harry, spouse of June’s late son, Gregory Harry, granddaughter Nicole Harry, and brother Theodore Goodenow.
As a young woman, June attended Syracuse University, where she met her future husband, Milton Harry. At that time, she was studying journalism, hoping to start a career in radio journalism. June interrupted her studies to start a family, eventually relocating to Miami, Florida where she was to live until coming to Gaithersburg, Maryland in 2011, to be closer to extended family in the area.
In Miami, June pursued a career in real estate as a commercial property saleswoman, while also assisting Milton in the establishment and management of his budding architecture firm, MCHarry & Associates. June managed financial aspects of the business until her retirement in 1991 as Director and Chief Financial Officer, contributing greatly to the firm’s success. She was an active member in the Serendipity Investment Club while in Miami, and her background in real estate facilitated a number of strategic purchases, ultimately leading to their relocating, upon retirement, to a waterfront home they designed and built in Stuart, Florida. June and Milton also had a home in Seattle for several years to be close to family on the west coast, though June permanently relocated to Maryland following her husband’s passing.
During her time in Florida, June made many life-long friends, and volunteered with numerous local organizations, including the Martin County Library, where she helped to host many well-known authors during their highly regarded annual Book Fair. A committed birder who also loved the outdoors, June took advantage of every opportunity to identify the many bird species native to Florida, while sailing or canoeing the state’s many waterways.
June was also an avid poker player, helping to establish a local poker group in both Stuart and Miami (and later at Asbury Methodist Village), whose members -- now dispersed around the country, still get together whenever possible.
In retirement, June and Milton spent many years traveling to and staying in various parts of the world, including Europe and Australia. In 2001, June returned to school, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies from Barry University, an accomplishment of which she was justly proud. June’s love of animals and the outdoors continued at Asbury, where she lived with her two cats, and she was a frequent sight around Asbury’s beautifully landscaped grounds or at many of the community’s events and activities.
A small service is planned for local friends and family at Asbury Methodist Village, in the Guild Chapel and Park View Club Room, Saturday morning, January 18 , 2024, at 10 am, with a larger celebration of life to be scheduled for later this year.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the charity of their choice, or to the Humane Society or The Nature Conservancy.

I regret that I did not get to know June better. My husband and I visited her several times during the last weeks of her life. Her obituary tells me much I did not know. We have long been grateful that June's son fitted our courtyard so that our cat can enjoy it. I am grateful each time she's out there. May June's generous spirit live on in her family,

I had the privilege of knowing June for only a short while in Mercer Island, WA, but kept in touch with her in Maryland. I found June to be intelligent, interesting and fun to know and I’m sorry she’s no longer with us. I’ll miss her friendship. My deepest sympathy to her family and friends.
