George Louis Toman, 65, passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 26, 2024. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years Maggie, his devoted daughters Katherine Toman Brinkley and Erin Toman Fagan and his adoring sister and her husband, Helen and Steve Ware. George is also survived by his sons-in-law Scott Brinkley and Jack Fagan, his grandson Wesley Brinkley, as well as John and Mary Lansing, Stephen and Leslie Ware, and many more nieces, nephews and cousins. George loved his family and friends deeply without reservation.
George attended Good Counsel High School and Towson University where he studied Mass Communications and built a successful career as an audio engineer for ABC, MSNBC and several DC-based news channels. His love for music, theater, and the arts came through in all that he did professionally and personally, including eight years of working with the PHS Midnight Players designing and building their sound systems. Any time spent around a table with a good meal, great company and wonderful stories made George’s heart full. His presence in all our lives will be greatly missed.
The funeral service to celebrate George’s life will be held on Saturday, May 4, at 4:00 PM, at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd., Barnesville, MD. The family’s home will be open to visitors from 1:00 to 3:00, as well as after the service, to share stories and companionship. Wear a Hawaiian shirt; we all know George would be wearing one!

To Maggie, Kate, Erin, Helen and all of the rest of George's family/friends. I have known George all of his life as our parents were friends before he was born. His sister (Helen), George, and I grew up together in Silver Spring and spent most Friday and Sat evenings together while our parents played Bridge. Holidays and Birthday were also spent together. Although not biologically related we considered ourselves to be family and George was lovingly referred to as "Broth", short for brother. George had to tolerate being 3/4 years younger but we loved him dearly despite picking on him at times at times. I remember George as having such passion as he worked on the school musicals, especially working to get the lighting and sound perfectly synced. George wa probably 14 when I met him at Good Counsel High School. He was a year or two behind me in school, and we did not get to know each other terribly well. He made a distinct impression, just the same. In the midst of all the posturing, competition, and teenage angst, here was a boy who seemed to know who he was and who seemed genuinely comfortable in his skin. We met again years later, as fathers raising girls in the same small town. As George was parting ways with the high school theater, I was becoming involved. He had washed his hands of PHS, but he was so generous of spirit that he answered a lot of questions and helped me build a tenuous grasp on the complex world of live sound. He touched a lot of lives, and the world is a poorer place without him.
