Frederick Thomas Hobbs Jr “Rick” passed away after a long battle with kidney disease and congestive heart failure, at his care facility in Whitehall Manor, PA on May 1st, 2026. He was 78, born on February 19th, 1948, in Alexandria Virginia. He spent some of early life in England where his father was stationed and grew up in Chevy Chase Maryland.
He is preceded in death by his father Frederick Thomas Hobbs, his mother Frances Hobbs, his brother Peter Hobbs and his loving wife Cecilia “Ann” Hobbs who unexpectedly passed the year prior, on April 13th 2025.
Rick leaves behind his only child Laura (Hobbs) L. Hutchinson and son-in-law, Thomas J. Hutchinson.
After high school, Rick signed up to join the Navy on Dec 27, 1967 for 4 years during the Vietnam war. He served as a Sonar Technician on the USS Bronstein (DE-1037). He also served 2 more years in the Reserves. After serving his country, he made a life with his wife Ann and raised his daughter, Laura.
As a devoted husband and caring father, he enjoyed many passions and hobbies from restoring his 1962 Triumph TR3 that he drove from California to Maryland after leaving the military, going to the yearly Ocean City Sunfest to display his vast array of kites, bringing family and friends to many trips to Disney, or tinkering on many projects around the house. An avid prankster (a trait that was honed after many years conspiring with his brother Peter and cousin Dickie) Rick could always be counted upon to lighten the mood, make you smile, brighten up any situation. He was a talented guitarist, an award winning British car enthusiast, well read intellectual who loved cinema and good food. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
