Glenn Earl Norris
September 17, 1964 – May 18, 2026
It is with heavy yet hopeful hearts that the family of Glenn Earl Norris announces his homegoing to be with the Lord on May 18, 2026. Born on September 17, 1964, at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, Maryland, Glenn lived a life marked by deep love for family, country, and his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished brother, uncle, cousin, and friend whose warm smile and steady presence touched everyone he met.
Glenn was the beloved son of the late Charles William Norris, Jr. and Shirley Cubitt Norris and brother to Joni Lynn who preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Louise Cooley; his son, Jacob Ryan Norris; and his stepsons, Douglas Ward Cooley, Jr., Jacob Carson Cooley, and Travis Wayne Beach. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Elizabeth McPhatter, and brother-in-law, Bennett Douglas McPhatter; nephews Bennett Douglas McPhatter, Jr., James Patrick McPhatter, and Owen Kaine Richmond; and many cousins and dear friends. Glenn was filled with excitement in his final days knowing that twin grandnieces, Aubrey Elizabeth McPhatter and Jolie Ruth McPhatter, would soon arrive.
A 6th-generation son of the Poolesville, Maryland area, Glenn was deeply rooted in the community he loved and took great pride in preserving its stories. As the family historian, he cherished tracing the Norris lineage back to its Nordic roots, delighting in how the name “La Norese” evolved into “Norris” in England. He graduated from Poolesville Jr/Sr High School in 1982, where his adventurous spirit shone through in his prized 1973 Javelin, his various motorcycles, and his talents as a roller skater at Wheel-a-While and Congressional Roller Skating Rink. As a young man he was active in Boy Scouts, UMAC baseball, and FFA, and he worked alongside his father at Norris Fuel—lessons in hard work and integrity that shaped him for life.
Glenn proudly served his country as a United States Army Specialist (E-4) from 1992 to 1996. A “Tanker” who drove the mighty M1A1 Abrams, he was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, and deployed to Southwest Asia in support of operations in Kuwait and Iraq. His patriotism ran deep, and he carried the title of Disabled Veteran with quiet dignity after being exposed to toxins from burn pits during his service. He was a member of the American Legion, Daniel-Jeffers Post 247 in Poolesville.
In civilian life, Glenn worked as a security guard at the NIH farm in Dickerson and with STING Security in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties before finding joy behind the wheel as a long-haul and local truck driver, and later at the Poolesville Tractor Supply Company as an Assistant Manager, where co-workers affectionately called him the “Goat Man.” His beloved Nubian dairy goats, which he leased to 4-H students to show at the Montgomery County Fair, brought him endless delight and laughter. At one point, he served as a volunteer firefighter in Jefferson County, West Virginia, and was a current member of the Cold Deer Hunting & Fishing Club in Thurmont, Maryland. Whether on the water fishing, out on the golf course, or simply spending time with loved ones, Glenn lived fully and generously.
Above all, Glenn was a man of deep Christian faith. A member of both Hosanna Community Church and Poolesville Baptist Church, he had placed his trust in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He knew where he was going, and his family finds comfort in the promise that he is now in the presence of his Heavenly Father, free from pain and whole at last.
Glenn’s life was a beautiful testimony of love, service, and quiet strength. He will be remembered for his big heart, his sense of humor, his loyalty to family and country, and the way he made everyone around him feel valued. Though we grieve his passing, we celebrate a life well-lived and look forward to the glorious reunion that awaits us in Heaven.
“Absent from the body, present with the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 5:8)
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all who lifted Glenn up in prayer and showed him kindness during his journey. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Glenn’s memory to a veterans’ organization or your local church.
Rest in peace, dear husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. We love you and will carry your memory in our hearts until we meet again.
Glenn’s Celebration of Life will be held at the Poolesville Baptist Church, Family Life Center Gymnasium, on July 17, 2026, from 5PM to 8PM.
