Harold David “Dave” Johnson III, 66, passed away on September 11, 2026, following a courageous journey with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
Born on May 29, 1960, Dave was raised in Washington, D.C., by his parents, Esther and Dave Johnson. Dave played football at Randolph-Macon University and Montgomery College, where he earned his Associate’s degree. In the years following, he went on to become the proud third generation owner and operator of H.D. Johnson, Inc.
Dave shared 37 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Elizabeth Johnson, and together they had three children.
Dave loved sports and dedicated countless hours to coaching his children’s teams as they grew up. A lifelong Washington sports fan, Dave was especially devoted to the Washington Redskins. His love of football also took him onto the field as a high school football referee later in life. He also loved traveling with his family, and scuba diving.
Those who knew Dave will remember his generosity, his larger-than-life personality, and perhaps most of all, his infectious laugh. His spirit will be lovingly remembered by everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
Dave is survived by his wife Elizabeth, his children Jennifer (Alex), Harold David Johnson IV (Danielle), Kelley (Austin), and Steven, his grandchildren Cayden, Wesley, Alexa, Jocelyn, Mason, Eva, and his siblings Daniel, Dayle, Derrick (Tracey), Dean (Jean), and Deanna (David).
