Joyce Annette (Joy) McCartin, 83 of Beallsville, MD, died March 31, 2026 at her home in the company of her family. Born February 5, 1943 in Hyattsville, MD, she was the daughter of Anthony S. and Genevieve U. Santucci.
Joy worked in the mortgage banking field her entire adult life, starting as the first female loan officer in Montgomery County, MD in 1960 and going on to own her own mortgage company and, in her last thirty years, her company, Mortgage Processing Center, which processed loans for mortgage brokers in several states. She completed her final two loans a few days before her death.
Joy also owned the Joy of Creation in the Quince Orchard Shopping Center where she and others made and sold crafts. In the early 2000s she and her brother Dan owned and operated the West Diamond Grille restaurant and bar in Gaithersburg, MD. She also owned and operated Old Oaks Tea Parlor at her home in Beallsville, where she put on tea parties for children and adults with her dear friend Reneta Funk. She also hosted weddings and other gatherings at her property.
Joy was active in her church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Barnesville, MD. She was twice Prefect of Sodality. She was most proud of introducing 15- year old Saint Carlo Acutis to Montgomery County, showcasing his compilation of over 150 miracles concerning the Holy Eucharist. Joy also ran the Craft Table at the Church’s annual Chicken and Ham and Turkey Dinners for over 20 years.
Joy loved singing. She sang with her father’s band, where her father played the banjo and drums, her uncle played the keyboard and Jimmy Dean was an occasional guitarist. After coming in second in the 1960 Miss Rockville contest, she turned down an offer by her professional accompanist to join him as a singer on a cross country tour. Some of her most fun times were entertaining her grandchildren and the children at her daughter Lynee’s La Petite Day Care Center. She would dress up as a Clown or Mother Goose and sing and read stories to the children.
Joy is survived by her loving husband, Tom McCartin, her children, Gregory S. Earp of Dagsboro, DE, Cynthie Corcoran (Kevin) of Newburg, MD, Corie Meese of Inwood, WV and Lynee O’Connor (David) of Carlsbad, CA; her grandchildren, Tayler Corcoran Duran (Bryan), with a great grandchild on the way, of Denver, CO, Kameryn Corcoran (Adam) of Seattle, WA, Raegan Corcoran Tuckey (Ryan) of Birmingham, AL, Kyle Meese of Columbus, OH, Kendle Meese Rennie (Jarrod) of Cle Elum, WA, Ryan Weston of San Diego, CA, Hannah O’Connor of Los Angeles, CA and Sydney O’Connor of Minneapolis, MN. She is also survived by her sisters, Peg Leonard of Martinsburg, WV and Jennine Cornell of Poolesville, MD and her brother Bryan Santucci (Susan) of LaPlata, MD, also by many nieces and nephews, and her beloved dogs, Shep and Finn. Her brothers, Gary and Dan Santucci, preceded her in death.

My sincere and deepest condolences to Tom and to their entire family. Joy and I have been the best of friends since she and Tom moved into the Old Oaks Estate next to our home (over 30 yrs ago?).
She was always there for me. Loving me, listening to me, guiding me through all of a young mother's decisions, laughing with me, crying with me, reminding me that I mattered, consoling me, etc., etc., etc. She was more like a sister AND a best friend. We had so many great years together. We ran the Tea Parlor together, hosted parties together, worked together, and played together. Her wonderful laugh will forever be in the back of my mind and will always cheer me up at the mere thought of it.
Words cannot begin to express how much she will be missed. My grandson, Myles, also loves Joy (and Tom) dearly (as many of you have seen on my Facebook posts of Joy teaching him how to play the spoons, explaining her family portraits to him, etc.) When I told him she had gone to heaven, he teared up and said "But we will miss her!"
I know it is going to be hard without her here beside us, but I encourage you all to remember that wonderful, sweet smile and laugh often and to remember her kindness to all, and know that she will always be here with us in Spirit and that she is now surrounded by loved ones, friends, and most importantly, her precious Mother Mary and Jesus.
God bless you and keep you in his graces always.
Love, Reneta
