Michael Edward Shaffer, 66, of Boyds, MD, passed away on July 29, 2026.
Michael was the loving husband to Carole L. Shaffer.
Born on September 3, 1959 in West Virginia, he was the son to Mary Louise (Glasscock) Shaffer and the late Edward Lee Shaffer.
Mike was a free spirit who taught everyone around him to live life to the fullest. He loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren and friends, taking long road trips and motorcycle rides, tinkering on old cars, puttering in his garden, and playing games and guitars.
Along with his wife and mother, Michael was survived by his two children; Justin Shaffer, Aaron Lempert, sister; Susan L. Cassidy and 3 grandchildren; Madison, Zachary and Christopher, nephew Ryan Cassidy and niece Shannon Pisculli.
The family will be receiving friends on Saturday August 15 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road, Barnesville, MD 20838.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in his memory to Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Transplant Center which allowed Mike eleven more years to spend with his loved ones. Please consider donating to share that gift with as many people as possible.

Mike was not just my racing buddy but he was a confidant, sometimes we would talk on the phone for hours. He always asked about my son and my well-being, we had a lot in common like our cars and our projects and we were always very candid to each other about life's setbacks. Mike was a good boy, young at heart. He was kind of like a brother. While we worked together we also talked a lot about the good old days.
