I batted against Paul for a few years in the senior softball league (without much success). We all looked forward to the donuts Paul brought to our senior softball luncheons. He was always interesting and upbeat. Ray Myers

I'm so upset to hear about this, I worked with Paul at Truland for close to 40 years. Sometimes side by side 8 hours a day if something needed to be done asap. We would get each other laughing so hard we would have to pause the working. One day long ago while visiting my wife's aunt in Germantown I ran into Paul and found out he was there next door neighbor. We talked for hours that day. Sorry for rambling on but we just spent a lot of time together and he will be missed by me for sure. RIP Paul.

From: Paul Bowman

I just want to send my heartfelt condolences to the Hockenbery family. I grew up in Poolesville and played on many teams associated with UMAC baseball. I always enjoyed playing against the Germantown teams that Paul Hockenbery coached, but the best times were when he was umpiring the games I pitched. We had great times arguing about his coffee can strike zone on many occasions. I always looked up to him as a great coach, umpire, and mentor. I’m just glad we could reconnect earlier this fall at the Gene Lowery field dedication. I could spend hours talking about how great of a person Paul was, but the best part is our friendship. You’re going to be missed Paul, they don’t make guys like you anymore. Paul Bowman
