Peter “Pete” Robbins Dunlop, 84, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away on September 27, 2026.
Pete was the loving husband of Raona Dunlop. Born on December 10, 1941, in Illinois, he was the son of the late Craig and Janice (Catlin) Dunlop.
Pete grew up in Ogden Dunes, Indiana, along the shores of Lake Michigan. He graduated from Portage High School in 1959 and later attended college in Iowa before returning to the Chicago area to work alongside his father at Kelso-Burnett. He spent 35 years working in downtown Chicago, making the familiar commute aboard the South Shore Line. After a long and dedicated career, Pete retired in July 2002.
Pete married Raona on November 27, 1971, beginning a marriage and life together that would span more than five decades. Their daughter, Laura, was born in 1974. In December 2023, Pete and Raona moved to Frederick, Maryland, to be closer to Laura and her husband, Michael.
Growing up near Lake Michigan inspired Pete’s lifelong fascination with the Great Lakes. He particularly enjoyed reading about Great Lakes shipwrecks and watching programs about boating and fishing. He also had a great appreciation for classic cars and watching the Indy 500.
Pete was also a cat lover, and adopted Hidey and Josie shortly after moving to Frederick.
Along with his wife, Raona, Pete is survived by his daughter, Laura Dunlop, and her spouse, Michael.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Pete’s memory to Poolesville Cats.

Laura and Raona, I am so sorry to hear about Peter. I only knew him for a short time. But I so enjoyed his company when I was around him. He and Rae had several of the same interests as I. I loved hearing about how they r enjoyed a special Sunday breakfast together. You could tell they had a very special marriage
