Rex Dennis D'Costa, 89, of Poolesville, Maryland, died peacefully on September 26, 2026, surrounded by his family.

 

Rex was born on April 8, 1937, in south India, to Raymond Vincent D'Costa and Blossom Patricia (White) D'Costa. He grew up in Madras (now Chennai), where he went to St. Bede's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School. In 1972 he came to the United States to build a new life, a brave step that shaped his family for generations. He kept close ties to his loved ones around the world and was known by the name his family gave him: "Rexy."

 

Rex served his adopted country for many years as a federal employee, working as an agent with the Internal Revenue Service. He was known for his integrity, his hard work, and his steady dedication to his job.

 

On October 20, 1985, he married Juanita, his partner and companion. Together they made a home filled with love, and nothing mattered more to Rex than time with his family. He loved being an uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed singing as a member of the choir at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church. He had a lifelong love of animals and shared his home with several dogs over the years, each one a cherished member of the family. On game days he could be found cheering for the Washington Commanders, loyal through the good seasons and the hard ones.

 

Rex is survived by his loving wife of nearly 41 years, Juanita D'Costa; his sons, Darren D'Costa and Sean D'Costa (Christine); his grandson, Leo D'Costa; and his brother, Leonard D'Costa (Brenda). He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Blossom D'Costa; his brothers, Bonaventure D'Costa and Ralph D'Costa; and his sister, Patricia D'Costa.

 

The family will be receiving friends from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church in Poolesville, Maryland, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church in Poolesville, Maryland. A private burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Maryland.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Rex's memory to the Montgomery County Humane Society (mchumane.org), a fitting tribute to his love of animals.

 

Rex will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him, here and abroad.
