Stanley Albert Fisher (Stan), 81, went to heaven on June 19, 2026. He was the son of the late Joseph Milton and Janet Armstrong Fisher. He was born at home, on Fishers Lane in Rockville, on November 12, 1944.
Growing up in Rockville and later Kensington, MD, Stan graduated from Walter Johnson High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from the University of Maryland and a Masters of Science from Johns Hopkins University. At UMD, he entered into service in the US Air Force, serving for 2 years. As a physicist, he worked for over 35 years at the David Taylor Model Basin, Carderock Division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, quieting attack submarines. In the course of his work he was granted several acoustics related patents. At his home in Boyds, he was a “gentleman farmer” following guidance from the book “Five Acres and Independence”. He raised sheep, chickens, tended beehives, and always had a large vegetable garden, fruit bushes, and orchard. He loved birding, participating in numerous Audubon Christmas bird counts, and spring bird walks with local friends. He was a charter member of the North American Bluebird Society and member of the Maryland Bluebird Society. He monitored multiple bluebird box trails, and made bluebird boxes for these and others. He was active in many other groups, Boyds Civic Association, Sugarloaf Citizens Association, and the American Chestnut Foundation to name a few. He loved playing golf (always had a new swing) and softball. He was an active parishioner at St. Rose of Lima Church where he initiated the chartering of the St. Rose Knights of Columbus Council (14297). Together with his wife, he was a professed Lay Carmelite and member of the Flower of Carmel Lay Carmelite Community.
He was a passionately devoted father and grandfather, always participating and supporting them in their many activities. He so looked forward to gathering the family for Sunday dinners or other celebrations.
Survived by his wife of 25 years, Lizabeth (Beth), two children: David (Elizabeth) Fisher, of Front Royal, VA and Laura Fisher of Teton Valley, ID; six grandchildren, Lucia, Daniel, Joseph, Emma, Michael, and Andrew; two brothers Robert Fisher, Kensington, MD; Douglas Fisher, Boise, ID. He was predeceased by his brother, Lawrence Fisher.
Family will be receiving friends at Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd., Barnesville MD on Friday, June 26th from 6-8 PM. A mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday, June 27 at 11AM at St. Rose of Lima Church, 11701 Clopper Rd, Gaithersburg, MD. A light luncheon will follow the mass with final interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 18230 Barnesville Rd, Barnesville, MD.

I always enjoyed working with Stan when I volunteered at St. Rose of Lima as a gardener. I remember his concern about the huge and ancient oak trees on the property and their preservation. He always greeted me warmly and listened to my off-beat suggestions, offering differing opinions quietly and respectfully. I easily sensed his goodness. May we all follow his example of actively caring for nature.

What an amazing person and what a full life. I feel so blessed to be able to be a part of his spiritual journey. Stan touched so many of our lives spiritually in so many ways. My husband and I were one of many couples that were privileged to be part of “small faith” community, of which Beth and Stan were a part. Stan was always one of the more passionate members. He always had sound biblical words of wisdom to offer the group. Stan had a big heart and was always full of compassion for all of us.
We pray for Beth and all of his family that God gives them strength during this difficult time. Stans presence will always be felt, and his love and legacy continue around us through his wife, children and grandchildren.

Sad that I cannot travel to be there with family. Stan and I were best buddies for our first five years on Fisher Lane. I had one older brother. He had two. We were four years old down by the barn. The older boys pushed us into the barn and tossed a black snake after us, then shut the door. I remember we were not afraid of the snake. We were little kids really afraid of the dark. They eventually let out screaming and crying, then all went home for lunch. Great memory. Love my cousin buddy.
