Brian Louis Friedman, 75, of Keedysville, MD, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2024.  A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Brian was born on February 8, 1949, in Maryland, to the late Maurie and Doris (Ostrow) Friedman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne, and his parents.
Brian lived a life of family, service, music, spiritual depth, and creativity. Brian cherished connections. When his children were growing up, one of his favorite pastimes was to sit on the back porch and have long, deep discussions with them, and this extended later in life to deep dialogues with his grandkids. He worked at the Bureau of Labor and Statistics for 35 years, forming lifelong friendships along the way, and volunteered for many years with the local civic association in Urbana, Maryland. Passionate for music, he played his saxophone in many bands including the Mystics and Easy Money, and he was known for dancing around his cottage listening to Latin music.  A spiritual man, Brian meditated daily. He was an avid reader, seeker of knowledge, and life-long learner of different religions, cultures, and philosophy. A skilled woodworker, he enjoyed making cabinets, shelves, and art for his home and loved to teach his kids how to use the tools, leaving a legacy of creativity.
Brian had a zest for life and the outdoors. He loved golfing with family and friends. On family beach vacations, he enjoyed his ritual of rising at sunrise to meditate on the beach, followed by securing the perfect beach spot for his family to enjoy.

Central to Brian's life were his children: Alexis Holland and her husband Michael, Joshua Welsh and his wife Kristin, Melanie Friedman and her wife Kathleen, and his five grandchildren: Novalee, Matti, Noah, Baylei, and Addyson. To know him was to know his laugh. Brian’s jolly, infectious laugh, often the first thing people recall when thinking of him, has left an imprint on the hearts of all who knew him.

Friends and family are invited to join Brian’s Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 18th 12-3 at Chestnut Grove Park located at 3106 Chestnut Grove Road Keedysville, MD 21756. Guests are encouraged to come dressed casually and to share their favorite Brian memories while enjoying some food, music, and photos. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be sent to Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Department at 110 W. Champlain Street Sharpsburg, MD 21782.
