Mary Louise Crown, affectionately known as “Johnnie” her entire life, peacefully passed away at the Homewood at Frederick Assisted Living Residences on September 11, 2022.

Johnnie was a long-time resident of Montgomery County, Maryland, having been born in Barnesville on April 28, 1924, and was a resident of Gaithersburg until her move to Homewood.

Upon graduating from Gaithersburg High School, she settled into a life as a homemaker with her husband of 79 years, Thomas, while at the same time supporting him in his career as a successful home builder. A kind and gentle person, Johnnie was totally devoted to her family throughout her entire life.

She is survived by her son, Kevin M. Crown and daughter-in-law Jamie E. (Packie) Crown of Gaithersburg, her grandson, Thomas Marshall Crown and grand-daughter-in-law Sarah D. Crown of Cambridge, England;two great-grandchildren, Turner Wyatt Crown and Ashby Jane Crown, also of Cambridge England; and nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Oliver Crown; her parents, Charles M. Orme and Irene Vivian Bosley Orme; a sister, Edythe Orme Rotruck and brother-in-law Gerald M. Rotruck; a sister,Lorraine Orme Koonce and brother-in-law Henry Koonce; a brother, Charles Lindburgh (“Lindy”) Orme and sister-in-law Jean Muir Orme; and a nephew, William Michael Reber.

The family will be receiving friends on September 30th from 10:00-11:00 AM at Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road, Barnesville, Maryland, where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM.

Interment will follow at Monocacy Cemetery in Beallsville, Maryland.

Kevin William Dorsey, 55, of Boyds, MD, passed away in his home on September 6, 2022.

He was the loving husband of Dawn Marie Dorsey for 34 years.

Born on February 28, 1967 in Maryland, Kevin was the son of Larry Dorsey and the late JoAnn (Magaha) Dorsey.

 

Kevin was many things to those who knew him. To some, he was a coach. To others, he was a U.S. Army Veteran, a business owner, a jokester, a hunter. The list could go on infinitely. But, to all that had the pleasure of meeting him, he was a good friend, a mentor and a role model. He was truly an altruistic man. In health and in sickness he never wavered in his commitment to family, friends and community. He always preached hard work and perseverance, and during his 8 year battle with ALS he showed everyone exactly what it meant to work hard, and to be a fighter. He was a one-of-a-kind, inspirational,  honest, hard-working, fun-loving man who will be missed by all; the type of person who made everyone and everything around him better. 

 

Surviving besides his wife are his children; Samantha Jo Wrathall, husband, Michael, Cody William Dorsey, wife, Lauren, Jessica Anne Dorsey, boyfriend, Nick Katsikas, two sisters; Karri Morningstar, husband, Patrick, and Susan Frances, husband, David, two brothers; Keith Dorsey, wife, Krista and Kris Dorsey, wife Karen, two grandchildren; Annabelle Gail Wrathall and Georgios William Katsikas and  seven nieces and nephews, Kyle Morningstar, Kaysie Steele, Lexi Dorsey, Sydney Francis, Katelyn, Kristina and Kolton Dorsey.The Dorsey Family, including Kevin, would like to thank the dozens if not the hundreds of family, friends and the entire town of Poolesville, that have given our family their love and support over the last 8 years.

A celebration of life will be held on October 15th at 21325 Beallsville Rd. Dickerson MD 20842.  Drop in times are 1pm - 3pm with a short service at 1:30pm. On Sunday, September 18, 2022, Dr. Csaba L. Magassy peacefully passed away.

He was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1938.

His father Dr. Gabriel Magassy was a prominent Hungarian physician. In 1944, the family fled Hungary and forced into a Displaced Persons camp in Germany until they were finally freed in 1945 by the Americans.  In 1947 the family moved to the Canary Islands, Spain to live with their uncle Dr. Alexandro Györkõ, director of the Leprosy Sanitarium.  In 1950, the Magassy family moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where Dr. Magassy attended El Salvador, Jesuit Prep School. The family finally moved to the United States in 1956 landing in Sioux Falls, SD close to Thanksgiving Day, a wondrous celebration, cementing for them a life-long love of the US. Dr. Magassy graduated from Creighton University in Omaha, NB, earning a BA in Biology and a Medical degree.  He served in the US Air Force for 6 years and served as a flight surgeon for the Thunderbirds. He completed his residencies in general surgery at George Washington University Hospital and in plastic surgery at the University of California in San Francisco. He opened his own practice, serving as a successful plastic surgeon in Chevy Chase MD and McLean VA for 51 years. Dr. Magassy was Assistant Clinical Professor of plastic surgery at George Washington, and Georgetown University Hospitals and on the staff of several hospitals including Sibley, the Washington Hospital Center and Fairfax Hospital. He was an avid pilot, owning a Cessna that he used to for his practice, and further for humanitarian missions. He was an expert horseman, and a member of the Potomac and at the Marlborough Hunt Clubs.

Survivors include his former wife Frances (Kay) Magassy, his children Matthew Csaba Magassy, Stephen Laszlo Magassy, and Michelle Alexis Magassy, and his grandson Clayton Laszlo Magassy-Dungan, his son-in-law Jason Todd Dungan; his sister Dr. Georgette Magassy Dorn, and her children, Georgette Dorn Verdin, Dr. Elizabeth Magassy Dorn, Paul Dorn and Susan Dorn.

He is predeceased by his brother Gabriel A. Magassy, of San Diego, CA, who is survived by his son Gabriel Sandor Magassy.

Family and friends will be received at Our Lady of the Presentation Church in Poolesville, Maryland for an 11am viewing and 12pm service. Reception immediately follows at the Centurion Farm at 17801 Edwards Ferry Rd, Poolesville, MD 20837.

Nick John Konstandinidis,70, of Gaithersburg, MD, passed away on September 25, 2022.

Born on October 4, 1951 in Athens, Greece, he was the son to the late John Nick Konstandinidis and Alexandra Kaskouras.

Nick was the loving husband to Esther A. Konstandinidis.

Along with his wife, he was survived by his children; John Nick Konstandinidis, David Nick Konstandinidis, wife, Danielle, Isabelle Alexandra Moyer, husband, Travis, six grandchildren; Joshua, Jordyn, Niko, Mylo, Ella, Alex and his sister; Mary Varlas, husband Stratis.

The family will be receiving friends at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 7701 Bradley Blvd, Bethesda, MD 20817, on Wednesday, September 28th from 10:00-10:30 AM, where a service will follow after. Interment to follow at All Souls Cemetery, 11401 Brink Rd, Germantown, MD 20876.

Rodger Walter Williams, III, 80, of Frederick, MD, passed away suddenly on September 24, 2022.

He was the loving husband of Gwendolyn (Zimmerman) Williams.

Born on December 20, 1941, in Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late Rodger and Mary Shaw Williams, Jr.

He was a graduate of Poolesville HS class of 1960 and enjoyed farming the family farm. Rodger worked for Frederick County Highway department for 25yrs prior to retirement. After retirement he made many road trips delivering either Boss Hoss motorcycles for Mr. Grimes or delivering the race car to various locations throughout the US for Mr. Winkler.

Above all he was a loving husband & father that was always caring for his family and children.

Surviving besides his wife are his children, Rodger “Buddy” Williams, IV and wife Jeanne, David L. and wife Teri Williams, Patricia and husband Terry Jacobs; one brother, William Clifton Williams of Poolesville, MD; one sister Emily Jane Perry and husband Bill of Herndon, VA; 7 grandchildren; Shane, Holly and Steele Williams, Jack and Katelyn Williams, Kelsey Sweeney and Ella Jacobs, and numerous great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Bonnie Williams, wife to Clifton.  

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 30, from 6-8 PM, at Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville RD, Barnesville, MD, where funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 1, at 11:00 AM.  Interment will follow at Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville, MD

It is with sorrow that the family of Vadym Pyatovolenko of Poolesville, Maryland, announces his passing on September 25, 2022, at the age of eighty-two. 

He is survived by his wife, Tamara, son Igor (Olena), daughter Julia (Rosty), grandchildren Solomya, Fedir, Ivan (Maria), Tetyana, Iryna (Mykhailo), Joseph, Peter, Paul, sister Nelia, brother Valentyn, nieces, nephews, many friends, and extended family.

He is predeceased by his father, Gregory, and mother, Nadya.

He lived a full life and had a distinguished career as a college professor of mathematics in his native Ukraine. Being raised in an orphanage in post-World War II years, he graduated from University and was able to bring his younger siblings to the city of Dnipro. Being from a family of schoolteachers, he continued a family tradition by becoming a college professor. As such, he was a mentor to many. He met his wife Tamara when he taught graduate-level classes at the University. It was love at first sight. They had two wonderful children together. Vadym was life loving man – always kind and positive with a great sense of humor. He firmly believed in the goodness of mankind. He suffered from a stroke at the age of 71 and was partially paralyzed and could not speak (global aphasia), but he kept his smile and positive attitude to life -his eyes could tell stories without saying a word. He dearly loved his wife, Tamara. He admired her kindness, generosity of spirit, and was very grateful to her for the love and care she has shown throughout their fifty-five-year relationship, and especially for almost 12 years since his stroke.

Similarly, he loved his children and grandchildren and was honored by their achievements greatly. He was an incredible father who taught them the importance of commitment, taking responsibility, and asking for forgiveness. In the last years of his life, he became a refugee, fleeing the Russian war in Ukraine. Being a survivor of Word War II atrocities in Ukraine, it was especially difficult for him to change the country in his late years. But after moving to Poolesville, Maryland, he loved his new community, new country, and the countryside. Being raised at a farm, he certainly appreciated the tranquility of Poolesville. He loved animals and his favorite cat Moe. He will be sorely missed but never forgotten. The tears shed by his family and friends are not merely from sorrow but from gratitude for having had him in our lives.

A funeral service will take place at the St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, Silver Spring, Maryland, on Thursday, September 29,  2022, at 11:00  am, with interment to follow in the Monocacy cemetery in Poolesville, Maryland. May his memory be eternal and always to be remembered! 

Mary H. Donaldson, 60, of Damascus, MD passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on September 28, 2022.

She was the loving wife to Bradley Donaldson.

Born on December 4, 1961, in Maryland, Mary was the daughter of Robert and Mary (Connelly) Hahn. 

 

Mary and her husband Brad, lived in Damascus MD for 30 years and raised two kids.  Mary loved her family, her friends, cooking, reading and music.  Lots of memories were created at their vacation home in West Virginia.

 

Surviving besides her husband are their children; Andrew Donaldson and wife Shirl of Dickerson, MD, Katie Donaldson and boyfriend Steven Abramovitch of Baltimore, MD, one sister; Kathy Hahn of Arizona, one brother; David Hahn of Bethesda, MD.

 

Mary will be laid to rest at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 6th at Monocacy Cemetery, 19801 West Hunter Road, Beallsville, MD.

Winifred Steiner Kohlhoss (Winnie), 91, peacefully passed away at her residence in Poolesville surrounded by family Thursday morning, Sept 29, 2022.

Winnie was widow to Charles E. Kohlhoss, Jr. who passed away in 1983.

Born in Jefferson MD, Winnie was the daughter of the late Francis Leo and Ruth Smith Steiner.

She grew up on her parent’s small farm on Steiner Hill with her sisters Alice Eileen (Carmack) and Leona (Beers).

After graduating from Brunswick High School Winnie worked as a secretary at Fort Detrick and later The Montgomery County Courthouse before serving as the guidance counselor secretary at Poolesville High School in the 1970s. Throughout the 70’s and 80s’ Winnie assisted her husband Charles in the operation of their family automotive business, the Poolesville Motor Company founded in 1906. Winnie was a devoted and active member of the Poolesville Memorial United Methodist Church since 1953 where she fostered many lasting friendships. She was a Soroptimist and dedicated volunteer with Hospice Caring for 30 years before retiring from that service in 2010.

She is survived by 3 children: Pamela K. Nill ( Jack, deceased) and Cynthia L. Cook (David) and son, Charles E. Kohlhoss, III (Beth); 7 grandchildren: Jack Nill, Timothy Nill, Wesley Nill Seymour, Kendall Nill, Samantha Cook Hebron, Jocelyn Cook, and Chloe Kohlhoss; and 8 great-grandchildren.

There will be a reception of family and friends at Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road, Barnesville, MD from

5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct 8. The Rev. Timothy Dowell will officiate a memorial service at Poolesville Memorial United Methodist Church, 17821 Elgin Rd, Poolesville, MD 20837 at 12 noon on Sunday, Oct 9.
